INGEBJØRG STØYVA

Ingebjørg Støyva (b. 1978, Norway) grew up in a small village along the Sognefjord, raised by her father, grandmother, and brother. In her early teens, she discovered both a deep fascination with art and a particular sensitivity to color. Painting became a language through which she could articulate experiences and emotions beyond spoken words — a sensibility that continues to define her practice.

Støyva can be described as a narrative painter, though her narratives unfold through suggestion rather than declaration. Working within a figurative yet psychologically open framework, she constructs scenes that hover between memory and imagination. Her paintings employ illustrative strategies not to describe explicitly, but to evoke the subtle — the unspoken tensions, moods, and emotional undercurrents that shape lived experience. The atmospheres she creates are intimate yet ambiguous, inviting viewers to project their own associations and interpretations. Her aspiration is that the elements within her compositions feel emotionally recognizable, even when their stories remain undefined.

Støyva is represented by Galleri Ramfjord, where she held her first solo exhibition in 2015. Since then, she has participated in several prominent international art fairs and exhibitions in Copenhagen, Salzburg, Miami, and New York. She recently had a solo exhibition at Haugaland Museum in Norway, in collaboration with Haugesund Kunstforening and Galleri Ramfjord.

Her work is included in numerous international private and public collections, among them the Bennett Collection, the Red Bull Collection, the New Salem Museum, and the Muskegon Museum of Art, USA.
