Geir Yttervik (f.1955) is a Norwegian painter located in Lunner. He graduated from The National College of Art and Design in 1978, and from The Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts in 1982. His paintings combine elements form pop-culture, news reports, movies, literature, art history and his own photo album. The subject matter range from seemingly trivial situations, to intense plot driven snapshots, however sharing the same uncanny backdrop as the perspective lines are drawn to something unseen, suggesting more to the story outside of the frame. Using traumas from his past, Yttervik is processing and observing elements from dramatic scenes.
Yttervik exhibited at Säffle Kunstforening in Sweden (2020), Tingvoll Kunstforening (2019), Labro Kunstforening (2019), Open Studio Cité International des Artes, Paris (2018) and Kunstnerforbundet (2012) . He has also exhibited in a number of group exhibitions at Galleri Semmingsen (2019), Surnadal billag (2019), Festspela in Heidal (2018), Nils Aas Kunstverksted (2016), and Hå gamla prestegård (2015). Yttervik has also participated at Høstutstillingen, Norway’s largest marking of contemporary art and takes place each autumn, in 2016 and 2017.
Yttervik is represented in The National Museum collection, Arts and Culture Norway collection, Astrup Fearnley collection, Statoil Art Collection, The Norwegian Bank Collection and The Southern Norway Art Collection.
