ALE CASANOVA STATEMENT

In my work, simple scenes are portrayed with absolute naturalness and rawness through figures and portraits. This naturalness, combined with the idea of what is “outside the frame” that remains unknown to us, is my way of evoking emotions in the spectator, who cannot remain indifferent. The viewer is prompted to question the reason behind the scene, recompose the missing parts, imagine possible events, and even give continuity to what happens after the moment captured in the image.

Through figures and portraits, I aim to create an atmosphere of intimacy in my paintings. For me, the human figure, especially the nude, is the simplest and most direct way to engage the viewer. My intention is to ensure that the images provoke and move the observer by placing the figures at the center of the painting in a near-symmetrical composition, capturing them in their most personal moments. The viewer, then, plays the role of a voyeur, but without any obscene, lewd, or lascivious intent.

My work mainly features oil and watercolor as the primary mediums, as well as social media, all of which I use with the same intention, relevance, structure, and form. In my work, there is a clear inclination towards color, from the most muted and broken tones to the most saturated and high-contrast ones. Color becomes a playful tool, where its brightness serves as the fundamental axis. I approach painting with direct and precise brushstrokes, combining subtle gradients with bold, sharp strokes.
